The American writer and humorist Mark Twain was the first to say of golf that it was a great walk spoiled. It’s obvious from such a remark that Twain spent too much time on the Mighty Mississippi and not enough, or any, pursuing the great pastime of golf, especially on Beaver Island. For here, the walk is anything but spoiled as you enjoy your round amidst the beauty of America’s Emerald Isle with the company of fellow golfers, white-tailed deer, migrating Canada geese, a not-so-fleet flock of turkey, a rabbit or two, and even the occasional stray cow (the course manager raises them with an apparent appreciation of the game).
For those who have yet to experience this experience, allow me to share mine on a quick tour of this amazing little course.
